What's wrong with the world?
...and how it will be put right
Somebody once said that you will never find atheists on a life raft. This is another way of saying that when people are in desperate situations, they cannot afford to leave God out of their reckoning.
The stark fact is that we are all in a desperate situation, right now! Anyone who takes a moment to think about it should be deeply concerned at the ominous downward drift of world conditions. Little-by-little, or sometimes in big leaps, world affairs seem to be going from bad to worse. Every day brings more news about tremendous problems, or serious worries about the future. Crime is increasing at such a rate that it cannot be effectively controlled. Violence and terrorism regularly take innocent lives and make life intolerable for others. Immorality, pornography and permissiveness are on the increase, along with divorce and a widespread breakdown in family values. The financial systems of the world seem to be about to collapse. And generally speaking, the world lacks good leadership, whether from governments or the church.
For many in the world, life is just not worth living any more. Without enough food and water, or suffering unnecessarily from treatable sickness, many exist in dire poverty without any hope for something better. At the same time, others in the world enjoy a lifestyle that is beyond most people’s wildest dreams, seemingly without any restraint or pangs of conscience. Meanwhile, with heads in the sand, many choose to ignore warning signs that tell us the ‘good times’ we may have enjoyed in the past cannot go on forever. The world we have known is already changing fast and, like a ship without a rudder in a gathering storm, is heading towards the rocks! Just how long it will be before we all feel the crunch nobody knows, but the signs are that it won’t be long.
The stark fact is that we are all in a desperate situation. To say otherwise is to live in a dream world. Life at its very best is brief and precarious. If all we do is live out our lives hoping for things to improve, we will probably be disappointed. And even if by some lucky chance we escape the full impact of the tremendous problems that are now plaguing our world and getting worse, the most we can look forward to is a comfortable retirement – if we live that long!!
So, if you are happy to leave the matter there, switch off now. But if you are just a little curious, and want to know more about the possibility of there being more to life than it seems on the face of it, carry on reading.

Spending just a few minutes each day reading the Bible, with the help of a plan and some notes, makes the it easier to understand.
